Northrop Grumman's Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems
Division, Strategic Force Programs in Azusa CA, is seeking a
qualified Functional Manager 2 for the Software Engineering
Pathways department. We are seeking someone who has the ability to
report on-site daily, and we can accommodate teleworking dependent
upon business/program need. This roll will perform key technical
assignments on Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Payload Programs
(NGG, NGP, SPICE, SBIRS GEO 5-6), Joint Polar Satellite System
(JPSS) Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and other
space programs. This position will report on-site daily, but we can
accommodate teleworking dependent upon business/program need. The
OPIR Payload programs deliver timely, reliable and accurate missile
warning and infrared surveillance information to key decision
makers. The system enhances global missile launch detection
capability, supports the nation's ballistic missile defense system,
expands the country's technical intelligence gathering capacity and
bolsters situational awareness for warfighters on the battlefield.
The architecture includes a resilient mix of satellites in
geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO), hosted payloads in HEO orbit, and
ground hardware and software. The integrated system provides robust
performance with global, persistent coverage. JPSS ATMS provides
global environmental data used in numerical weather prediction
models for forecasts, as well as provide space weather
observations, search and rescue detection capabilities, and direct
read-out and data collection products and services to customers;
this information about our planet is vital to our ability to plan,
predict, respond, and to protect lives and property like supporting
climate research as well as operational weather and storm
forecasting for civil, military, and international partners.In
addition to space program support, the Pathways department
Functional Manager will be part of the PATHWAYS rotational program
team. The successful candidate will provide functional management
for approximately 15 junior engineers of diverse disciplines. The
position requires engineering knowledge and leadership to help
establish and execute effective technical program work rotations
like data analysis, launch rehearsal, software development, TVAC
testing, mechanical design, electrical design, manufacturing,
cybersecurity, etc. Management activities include supporting
college-hiring activities, interviewing and hiring staff,
performance planning and appraisals, and professional development
of staff. The candidate will also be required to integrate input
from internal departments, program leadership, and other
departments to develop rotational assignments and opportunities for
the Pathways team members. Candidate must work effectively in a
collaborative teaming environment, involving close coordination
with program management, functional management, human resources,
and various campus organizations. Candidate must also possess the
ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.Additional
responsibilities may be assigned commensurate with performance or
