Northrop Grumman's Space Sector, Payload & Ground Systems Division, Strategic Force Programs in Azusa CA, is seeking an innovative and motivated Systems Engineering Manager 3 to lead a functional department within Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT) in support of space payload technology programs and pursuits. This position is approximately 50% functional organization management consisting of about 60 staff members across a wide range of experiences and skills. The selected candidate must be able to develop 50% direct contract work coverage. This position will report on-site daily. We can accommodate partial telework, but this is dependent upon business/program/team need.

Previous experience with satellite payloads and ground systems is strongly preferred. This position requires a solid understanding of engineering disciplines in a space systems context in order to help establish, evaluate performance, and train effective work processes and procedures. The senior manager may be called upon to support proposals; program evaluation; and sensor, payload, ground, or system test design, performance verification/validation, data analysis and trending, anomaly investigation and resolution among Line-of-Sight (LOS), radiometric, mission and flight disciplines. Additional specialty areas may also include launch readiness activities, on-orbit qualification testing, and payload command product validation. Strong people leadership skills are required, including the ability to identify and develop critical skill capabilities, support career development, evaluate and manage performance, identify and recognize achievement, and plan staffing support for programs. The manager would also be responsible for ensuring process compliance and supporting functional department initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field
  • 8+ years of technical experience in space and/or defense industry
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a related field
  • Active & current DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SSBI. Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in a STEM field
    • Certification or advanced degree in Systems Engineering
    • Active DoD TS/SSBI clearance
    • 15+ years of related space and/or defense industry experience
    • Knowledge of and experience with SBIRS space payload systems and operations
    • Proven ability to lead and influence a high performance team Salary Range: $171,000 USD - $256,400 USD

      Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
