Director of Gift and Estate Planning - University Advancement
Tracking Code S766 Job Description APU is seeking employees who

Director of Gift and Estate Planning is responsible for expanding
the pipeline of alumni, parents, and friends who choose to name APU
in their estate plans, and/or who leverage charitable gift planning
vehicles (i.e. Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder
Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, etc.) to maximize their
philanthropic investment in APU through current major, blended, and
deferred giving. The Director of Gift and Estate Planning will
develop and implement a program and marketing strategy, along with
goals, objectives, timelines, and metrics to ensure program success
and sustainability. The Director of Gift and Estate Planning will
partner strategically with the Director of Development, the
Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement, and the Director of
Annual Giving and Donor Relations, to build and engage a consistent
pipeline of prospects to achieve the current and long-term goals of
APU, while aligning giving opportunities with donor
interests.Required Education
- BA degree required.
- Master's preferred.Required Experience
- Minimum of five years of business and marketing background;
major donor fundraising experience and practical knowledge of Gift
and Estate Planning marketing, financial gift planning tools,
methodologies, and vehicles.Primary Duties/Essential Functions
- Reports to the Executive Director of Development, Major
Gifts
- Demonstrate mature Christian faith and lifestyle consistent
with Azusa Pacific University's "What We Believe" document.
- Affirm, support, and sustain the contents of the What We
Believe document, while also not advocating positions contrary to
this document.
- Contribute to the spiritual, personal, and professional
development of the members of the Division of University
Advancement to achieve a high-trust, high-performing Advancement
team.Strategic Program Development
- Develop a three-year rolling strategic plan, including specific
goals, measurable outcomes, and timetables, to raise major and
planned gifts, and secure bequest commitments aligned with APU's
strategic priorities and donor interests.
- Ensure that the three-year strategic plan and program
objectives align with demographic data (i.e. the aging of America,
and the wealth transfer), as well as maximize the current economic
and market opportunities.
- Ensure that the three-year strategic plan accounts for changes
and modifications to applicable tax law; ensure timely
communications with donors to take advantage of opportunities that
arise from such changes, or concerns that factor into gift planning
decisions.
- Develop strategic and collaborative partnerships with the
Director of Development, the Director of Alumni and Parent
Engagement, and the Director of Annual Giving and Donor Relations
to broaden the pipeline of engaged Gift and Estate Planning
prospects.
- Develop Gift and Estate Planning training materials and modules
for all front-line Development Officers.
- Develop outreach events and engagement opportunities that
expose prospects to the University its strategic aims.
- Develop a network of vetted professional advisors (real estate
agents, lawyers, accountants, financial management executives) who
share APU's vision and mission, and who will help expand prospect
recruitment pipelines.Program Goals and Expectations
- Develop a Gift and Estate Planning Program that produces $5M --
$10M annually in current and deferred gifts, bequests, and
commitments
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 120 current and prospective
major donors who also qualify as planned giving prospects and
complete a minimum of 20 face-to-face discovery, cultivation and
solicitation meetings per month. This will include local, regional,
and national travel.
- Participate in annual solicitations to achieve University Fund
(annual fund) team goal.
- Identify and implement specific strategies for the cultivation
and solicitation of major and planned gift donor prospects; review
written presentations and materials; work with the Executive
Director and staff to assure effective coordination of cultivation
activity. -Program Marketing, Communications, and Events
- Manage the work of the Planned Giving Coordinator to implement
GEP marketing strategies, communications, events, and stewardship
activities.
- Manage the Cornerstone Society membership, marketing, branding,
stewardship, communication, and engagement strategy.
- Curate content and produce the E-Legacy Newsletter
- Plan and develop effective programming for Financial Advisors
Network (FAN), as well as goals, strategies, budgets, and program
evaluation.
- Assist with and attends Advancement and University events (may
include evenings and weekends).
- Provide timely and accurate reports of major gift activity to
Supervisor.
- Provide appropriate information and documentation of all
prospect and donor activity in Raiser's Edge; documentation in the
form of contact reports and strategy statements to be housed in the
central Raiser's Edge
- Represent APU and promotes planned giving opportunities to
various public audiences, possibly through speaking
engagements
- Develop a thorough knowledge of the University's departments,
majors, and academic/co-curricular opportunities to present to with
donors andProgram Operations
- Serve as needed, as successor trustee on estate on behalf of
APU
- Serve as liaison with the Business Office for Gift
Administration, Estate Gifts, and Donor Contracts.Other
- Assist other development operations as needed.
- Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor
based on department needs.
- Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.Skills
- Ability to work under pressure, exuding a mature demeanor while
multi-tasking in a deadline-oriented environment with accuracy and
consistency.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

- Grade 18: $98,456-$127,993/annually
- Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience,
